Wikipedia describes the Sam & Max series as: "...an American media franchise about Sam and Max, a pair of anthropomorphic vigilante private investigators. The characters, who occupy a universe that parodies American popular culture, were created by Steve Purcell in his youth, and later debuted in a 1987 comic book series. The characters have since been the subject of a graphic adventure video game developed by LucasArts, a television series produced for Fox in cooperation with Nelvana Limited, and a series of episodic adventure games developed by Telltale Games. In addition, a variety of machinima and a webcomic have been produced for the series."
...however, Wikipedia is like the Encyclopedia Galactica of the internet. Usually accurate (when finicky trolls don't get involved), but quite boring. And Sam & Max don't do boring!
Meet the Freelance Police!
This is Sam! He's a 6ft tall dog with a keen appreciation for serving justice in typically the most chaotic way possible. He's the (slightly) more composed member of the two, and, according to an advert for their Lucasarts game Hit The Road, is also the founder of the Freelance Police! He'll never resist an opportunity to tell Max just how much he makes him laugh. In fact, his most common catchphrase is "You crack me up, little buddy!"
This is Max! He's a 3ft tall lagamorph (also referred to often as a "rabbity thing") with a strong affinity for all things violent and absurd. He's the more openly unhinged member of the two, and the same Hit the Road advert describes him as hyperkinetic and distracted. He's known for his sharp quips and even sharper maw. (He's quite the biting fiend) Despite his frequent sardonic remarks, he's generally always enthusiastic to tag along beside Sam wherever he goes.
Together, they form the inseperable Freelance Police, an unstoppable crime-fighting duo who love messing up the city they're supposed to protect almost as much as they love fighting over who gets to answer the phone!
